The public is more familiar with bad design than good design. It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.

Paul Rand

The Great Paul Rand would have turned 100 on August 15, 2014.

He was an American art director and graphic designer, best known for his corporate logo designs, including the logos for IBM, UPS, Enron, Morningstar, Inc., Westinghouse, ABC, and Steve Jobs’s NeXT. He was one of the first American commercial artists to embrace and practice the Swiss Style of graphic design.

He is, as Wikipedia notes, not to be confused with Rand Paul.
